Cloud recording as an Axis ACAP app.

Cube Cam is an ACAP — an application that runs directly on your Axis Camera. It packages video on the device and streams it straight to your cloud, so you get up to 7‑day continuous recording and AI events without an NVR, an adapter box, or port forwarding. Install it from the camera’s own web interface and you’re recording in minutes.

Why run it on the camera

The camera is already a computer. Use it.

Axis Cameras run ACAP apps on the edge — they have the processor and storage to do real work. Cube Cam uses that instead of shipping raw video to a box on your shelf, so the path from lens to cloud is direct and there’s nothing extra to fail.

Recorder-based recording

  • An NVR or PC constantly pulling and writing every stream
  • A plug-in cloud adapter to reach the internet
  • Port forwarding or a VPN for remote access
  • Footage lost if the box fails or is stolen

ACAP cloud recording

  • The app on the camera packages and uploads its own video
  • The camera connects out — no adapter, no open ports
  • Recording continues to the SD card if the network blips
  • Footage and events held in your cloud, not on a shelf
How it works

From the camera to your cloud in three steps.

No recorder in the middle — the ACAP does the work and the cloud holds the result.

1

Install the ACAP

Upload the Cube Cam app to each Axis Camera from its own web interface. About a minute per camera, no truck roll.

2

Record on the edge

The app packages video on the camera and streams it to your cloud, keeping a copy on the SD card so a network hiccup never leaves a gap.

3

Play back anywhere

Scrub the timeline, jump to any AI event, and pull the clip you need from any browser — no plugins.

What you get

Continuous footage, smart events, one app.

7-day cloud recording

Turn on continuous off-site recording per camera, or keep continuous video on the SD card and send only the events that matter.

AI events built in

Face recognition and PPE detection run in the same app, so every recording is tagged and instantly searchable. More on face recognition.

Resilient by design

Recording keeps going on the camera during a network outage and catches your cloud up when the link returns.

No new hardware

No NVR, no adapter box, no capture card — the camera you already own does it all.

Works with most modern Axis Cameras that support ACAP apps and have an SD card. Check your models.

FAQ

Axis ACAP cloud recording — common questions

What is an ACAP?

ACAP (AXIS Camera Application Platform) is Axis’s framework for running third-party apps directly on the camera. Cube Cam is an ACAP app, so it installs on the Axis Camera itself rather than on a separate server or recorder.

Does the ACAP record to the cloud or to the SD card?

Both. The app streams video to your cloud for off-site recording and keeps a copy on the camera’s SD card, so a network interruption doesn’t leave a gap in your footage.

Do I need an NVR or a cloud adapter?

No. Because recording runs inside the ACAP on the camera, there’s no recorder and no adapter box. The camera makes an outbound connection to your cloud, so there’s no port forwarding either.

How do I install the Cube Cam ACAP?

You upload the app package to the camera from its own web interface, create an account, and paste your claim code. It takes about a minute per camera.
